QRdx

Make QR codes from your AI assistant

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. Connect QRdx once, ask for a QR code in plain words, and get the image back in the chat.

Make QR codes in Claude with QRdx

One click opens Claude's Add connector dialog with QRdx and the server URL already filled in. Click Add and ask for a QR code.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Connect to Claude. Claude opens Customize → Connectors with the Add custom connector dialog already filled in (name QRdx, the server URL).
  2. 2Check the details and leave the advanced (OAuth) fields empty: the server needs no sign-in. If the fields are empty, paste the URL (it's on your clipboard) and name it QRdx.
  3. 3Click Add, then turn QRdx on from the tools menu of a chat.
  4. 4Ask for a QR code. Free Claude plans can add one custom connector; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it for the organization.

Make QR codes in ChatGPT with QRdx

One click copies the server URL and opens ChatGPT's settings. Custom connectors run in ChatGPT's developer mode.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Connect to ChatGPT. The server URL is copied and ChatGPT opens its settings.
  2. 2In Apps & Connectors, open Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to allow it first.
  3. 3Click Create, name it QRdx, paste the URL as the MCP server URL, choose No authentication and create it.
  4. 4In a new chat, pick Developer mode from the + menu, switch on QRdx and ask for a QR code. Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan.

Make QR codes in Claude Code with QRdx

Run one command in your terminal. The server is then available in every Claude Code session.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
Terminal
$ claude mcp add --transport http qrdx https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Copy install command and run it in your terminal.
  2. 2Start Claude Code and run /mcp to check that qrdx is connected.
  3. 3Ask for a QR code. Claude Code can also save the image or the SVG into your project.

Make QR codes in Cursor with QRdx

One click opens Cursor with the QRdx server ready to install.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
~/.cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "qrdx": {
      "url": "https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp"
    }
  }
}
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Add to Cursor and allow the browser to open Cursor.
  2. 2Cursor shows the qrdx server: click Install.
  3. 3Check it is switched on under Cursor Settings → MCP, then ask the agent for a QR code.
  4. 4Prefer config files? Add the snippet above to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json for one.

Make QR codes in VS Code with QRdx

One click opens VS Code's install page for the QRdx server. Use it from Copilot Chat in agent mode.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
.vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "qrdx": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp"
    }
  }
}
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Install in VS Code. The page hands over to VS Code, which shows the qrdx server.
  2. 2Click Install.
  3. 3In Copilot Chat, switch to agent mode, open the tools picker, make sure qrdx is on and ask for a QR code.
  4. 4Prefer config files? Add the snippet above to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

Make QR codes in Windsurf with QRdx

Copy the config into Windsurf's MCP settings. Cascade can then call the QRdx tools.

Server URL:https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp
~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "qrdx": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp"
    }
  }
}
How to connect?
  1. 1Click Copy Windsurf config.
  2. 2In Windsurf, open the MCP settings from the Cascade panel (or edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json) and paste it. Merge it into mcpServers if you already have servers.
  3. 3Refresh the MCP servers, check qrdx is on, then ask Cascade for a QR code.

Try it

Prompts to start with

Each one uses what the QRdx tools really do: colors and shapes, Wi-Fi, contacts, email, SMS and map payloads, and SVG, PNG or EPS links. Open it in your assistant or copy it.

  • Café menu

    “Make a QR code for https://example.com/menu in black and gold, #c9a227 on #111111, with rounded modules, for our café tables.”

    Try in Claude
  • Guest Wi-Fi card

    “Create a Wi-Fi QR code for the network Guest with the WPA password welcome-2026, ready to print on a card for our front desk.”

How it works

Three steps, then just ask

Your assistant calls the QRdx tools for you. You never touch an API.

  1. 1

    Add the server

    One command or a few lines of config in Claude, Cursor, VS Code or any other MCP app. No account or API key.

  2. 2

    Ask your assistant

    In plain words: the link or details to encode, colors and shape. It picks the right QRdx tool.

  3. 3

    Get a QR code back

    A PNG image in the chat, plus SVG, PNG and EPS links ready for Markdown, HTML or print.

Make a QR code for https://example.com in our brand blue, #155dfc, with rounded modules.

generate_qr_codedata: "https://example.com", fg: "#155dfc", body: "rounded"

Here's your QR code: 512×512 px, error correction Q, with links you can paste into Markdown or HTML.

SVG
qrdx.dev/api/v1/qr?data=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&fg=155dfc&body=rounded
PNG
qrdx.dev/api/v1/qr?data=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&format=png&fg=155dfc&body=rounded
EPS

Example chat: with the QRdx MCP server at https://mcp.qrdx.dev/mcp, the assistant calls generate_qr_code and replies with the QR code image and SVG, PNG and EPS links.

Tools

What your assistant can call

Seven read-only tools. They render images and format text, and never read or change QRdx account data. Full parameters are in the MCP server docs.

  • Generate a QR code

    generate_qr_code

    Renders the code and returns a PNG image plus public SVG, PNG and EPS image URLs ready for Markdown or HTML. Takes the image API options: colors, body, eye and dot shapes, error correction, margin and frame. Set include_svg for the SVG markup.

  • List styles

    list_qr_styles

    Body patterns, corner eye and eye dot shapes, frame templates, error correction levels, defaults and limits.

  • Wi-Fi network

    qr_payload_wifi

    A WIFI: payload (WPA, WEP or open, optionally hidden) with special characters escaped.

  • Contact card

    qr_payload_vcard

    A vCard 3.0 contact: name, organization, title, phones, email, website, address and note.

  • Email

    qr_payload_email

    A mailto: link with optional cc, bcc, subject and body.

  • Text message

    qr_payload_sms

    An sms: link with an optional message, or the older SMSTO: form.

  • Map location

    qr_payload_geo

    A geo: location from latitude and longitude.

MCP server FAQ

Do I need an account or an API key?

No. The QRdx MCP server is public and free. It needs no account or API key and keeps no session state.

Which AI tools does it work with?

Any MCP app that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP, such as Claude, ChatGPT (in developer mode), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and Codex. Apps that only run local stdio servers can connect through the mcp-remote bridge.

Can it add logos or gradients?

No. Like the image API, the MCP server renders solid colors only. For logos and gradients, design the code in the QRdx playground or render it with the qrdx React library.

Can it create dynamic QR codes?

No. The MCP tools render static QR codes and format payloads. Dynamic codes, whose destination you can change later, are created in the QRdx dashboard or with the REST API.

Does QRdx store the codes I generate?

No. The tools only render images and format text. They don't read or change any QRdx account data, and the server doesn't save the codes. The image URLs it returns contain the encoded data, so don't share them if the data is private, such as a Wi-Fi password.

Are there limits?

Requests are limited to 120 per minute per IP address. Very long data may not fit in a QR code; the tool then returns an error suggesting a lower error correction level.

Can I run it myself?

Yes. The MCP server is part of the QRdx web app, so a self-hosted instance serves it at /api/mcp on your own domain.
