What QRdx records when someone scans

The data a scan of a dynamic code records, what it never stores, and how long it's kept.

Only dynamic codes record scans. A static code holds your content directly and never passes through QRdx.

What a scan records

  • Country, region and city, worked out from the network.
  • Device type, operating system and browser.
  • The referring site, if there is one.
  • The browser's language.
  • Which version the visitor saw, if an A/B test is running.
  • A daily, salted hash of the network address and browser, so a visitor counts once per day.

What it never stores

QRdx never stores the scanner's IP address. The hash above can't be turned back into it, and it changes every day.

Bots and link previews aren't recorded.

How long scans are kept

Scans are kept as long as the code exists. Your plan decides how far back you can see them: 90 days on Free, 3 years on Pro and unlimited on Business.

Deleting a code forever deletes its scans.

Cookies for people who scan

Pages your scanners see, like short links and mobile pages, don't show a cookie banner and don't load QRdx's analytics or support widget.

The only QRdx cookie there remembers a correct code password for 6 hours. Page owners can add their own analytics pixels to their pages on paid plans.

The QR code scanner

The QRdx scanner keeps your scan history on your device only.
