Free URL QR Code Generator
A URL QR code stores a web address. When someone points a phone camera at it, the phone shows the link and opens it in the browser with one tap, so nobody has to type a long address from a poster, menu or business card. It is the most common kind of QR code and works for any page: a landing page, an online menu, a sign-up form or a product page.
By default the code is static: the address is written into the pattern itself, so it keeps working for as long as the page exists, needs no account and never expires. The trade-off is that a static code cannot be changed after printing. If the destination may change, or you want scan counts, switch on 'Make it dynamic' (it needs a free QRdx account). The code then points to a short link whose destination you can edit later from your dashboard.
How to create a URL QR code
- 1Paste the full address, including https://, into the URL field.
- 2Watch the preview update as you type, then scan it with your phone to confirm it opens the right page.
- 3Keep the quiet zone switched on if the code will sit on a busy or dark background.
- 4Download a PNG for screens and documents or an SVG for print, or open the full editor to add colors, a logo and custom patterns.

- Include the scheme (https://). Without it, some scanners treat the content as plain text instead of a link.
- Shorter addresses make a less dense code that scans from further away, so remove tracking parameters you don't need.
- Most URLs contain lowercase letters, so they are stored in byte mode: one byte per character, up to 2,953 bytes at error-correction level L.
URL QR code FAQ
Do URL QR codes expire?
No. A static QR code is the address encoded as a pattern. It works for as long as the web page it points to is online, and nothing on QRdx's side has to keep running for it to scan.
Can I change the link after printing?
Not with a static code, because the address is part of the pattern. Switch on 'Make it dynamic' before downloading, or create a dynamic code from your dashboard, to get a code whose destination you can edit and whose scans are counted.
How long can the URL be?
Up to 2,953 bytes at the lowest error-correction level, but long URLs create dense codes that must be printed larger. Under about 100 characters is comfortable for print.
Is there a scan limit?
No. Static codes have no scan limits, and QRdx never sees the scans: the phone opens your link directly.
