A code opens the wrong page
Why a QR code opens an old or unexpected link, and how to find out what it really holds.
First, see what the code holds
Take a photo of the printed code and drop it into the scan checker. It shows exactly what the code contains.
- If it shows your website address, the code is static.
- If it shows a short link like
qrdx.dev/q/…, the code is dynamic.
A static code
A static code stores the link inside the code. It can't be changed after printing.
This happens when a code is downloaded before it was made dynamic. To fix it, print the dynamic version. See Create a dynamic QR code.
A dynamic code
Open the code in Codes and check each of these.
The new destination wasn't saved
In the playground, changing the address isn't enough: click Point it to the new address. In the dashboard, use Edit link and Save changes. See Change where a code points.
A smart routing rule matched
Rules can send some scans elsewhere, for example by device or country. The first matching rule wins. Open Smart routing and click Test your rules.
An A/B test is running
Each visitor sees one version for the day. Another person may see a different page.
The code is paused or ended
A paused or ended code opens its Fallback URL, if you set one. Check Access & schedule.
UTM parameters were added
If you set UTM parameters, scans open your link with utm_ tags added. That's expected, and the page is the same.
Still seeing the old page?
QRdx doesn't cache redirects, so the next scan uses the new destination. If your phone shows an old version of the page itself, reload it in the browser.
