QR codes on tickets

The QR code on a ticket that gets you through the gate comes from your ticketing system: it's unique per ticket and checked against a database when scanned. QRdx doesn't issue or validate entry codes.

What QRdx is good for is the second code on the ticket, poster or wristband: the venue map, the set times, parking and transport, the bag policy. That information changes on the day, so it belongs behind a dynamic code.

What to link from QR codes on tickets

Which QR code to use

Static codes are free and need no account, but can't be changed after printing. Dynamic codes and hosted pages can be edited at any time, count every scan, and keep working on every plan, even if you cancel.

For a dynamic short link such as https://qrdx.dev/q/aB3dE5f at error correction Q, without the blank margin. Static Wi-Fi, vCard or long URL codes hold more data and need to be larger. Check yours with the print size calculator and the scan checker.

Placement tips

  • Keep the information code visually distinct from the entry code, and label it, so gate staff scan the right one.
  • Make the entry code the larger, more prominent one on the ticket.
  • Point the info code at a page that works on weak venue signal: no autoplaying video.
  • Repoint the info code after the event to recordings or next year's tickets.

Call-to-action copy

A code with a reason to scan beside it gets more scans than a bare code. Lines to print next to yours:

  • Scan for set times and the site map
  • Getting here and parking
  • Event info (not for entry)

QR codes on tickets: FAQ

Can QRdx generate entry tickets?

No. Entry codes need a unique code per ticket and a system that validates and marks each one as used. Use your ticketing platform for entry, and QRdx for information codes.

Can a ticket have two QR codes?

Yes, if they are clearly separated and labelled. Make the entry code prominent and the information code smaller, marked 'Event info'.

What should the information code link to after the event?

Repoint it to photos, recordings or next year's pre-sale. With a dynamic code, the printed tickets people keep as souvenirs still lead somewhere useful.
